London Broil Dinner

1 (12 ounce) piece beef flank steak

2 tablespoons vinegar or lemon juice

1 tablespoon cooking oil

1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

3 tablespoons water

8 whole tiny new potatoes, halved

Score meat by making shallow cuts at 1-inch intervals diagonally across steak in a diamond pattern.  Repeat on opposite side.  Place meat in plastic bag.  For marinade, in a small mixing bowl stir together the vinegar or lemon juice, cooking oil, garlic salt, pepper, and water.  Pour over meat in bag.  Seal bag and turn meat to coat well.  Marinate meat from 1 to 24 hours, turning bag occasionally.  Remove meat from bag, reserving marinade.  Meanwhile, in saucepan, boil potatoes for about 10 minutes, until nearly tender.  Spray broiler pan with non-stick spray.  Place meat and potato halves on pan and brush lightly with reserved marinade.  Broil 3 inches from heat for 6 minutes.  Turn meat and potatoes.  Broil another 7 to 8 minutes, or to desired doneness. To serve, slice meat thinly on the diagonal across the grain.
