Mom's Porcupine Meatballs

This is one of those recipes I remember eating as a child. Straight from my Mom's recipe box, I enjoy making these for my family today also.

1 pound ground beef

1/2 cup rice, uncooked

1/2 cup milk or water

1/4 cup onion, chopped

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon celery salt

1/4 teaspoon garlic salt

1/4 teaspoon pepper

2 tablespoons shortening

1 (15 or 16 ounce) can tomato sauce

1 cup water

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Mix beef, rice, milk, onion, salt, celery salt, garlic salt, and pepper.  Form into 8 balls.  Fry in melted shortening, turning frequently, until light brown, (but not crusty), on all sides.  In small bowl mix, tomato sauce, water and Worcestershire sauce.  Mix well and pour over meatballs.  Cover and simmer for 45 minutes over low heat.  Add a small amount of additional water if liquid cooks down too much.
