1 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork
1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
1 1/2 cups bread crumbs
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
3 cups water
1 1/2 tablespoons beef soup base (paste) or beef bouillon
1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 bay leaf
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix together, ground beef, pork, onion, bread crumbs, eggs, milk, salt, sugar, pepper, cloves and nutmeg. Shape into 1 to 1 1/2 inch balls. Bake for 20 minutes until browned. Reduce heat to 350 degrees. Put meatballs into a roaster. Scrape drippings from baking pan and put into a blender, add water, soup base or bouillon and lemon juice. Blend well. Pour over meatballs in roaster, add bay leaf and simmer 2 hours in oven.
