Grandma's Apfel Kuchen

Every year at apple season I make sure to make this very special dessert. From my Grandma, I have loved it since I was a little girl.

1 1/2 cups flour

1 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

3 tablespoons butter or margarine

3/4 cups milk

Dash of salt

1/4 cup sugar

8 to 10 baking apples

TOPPING:

1 cup sugar

1/4 cup flour

1 egg

2 tablespoons butter or margarine

Cool Whip

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix first 6 ingredients in medium bowl and spread evenly in an 8 X 10 inch pan. Peel and halve apples and place in rows, rounded side up on top of crust. Mix together topping ingredients and spread over apples. It will not cover every inch, but try to spead evenly. Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft and top is crusty. Top with Cool Whip before serving.
