Cousin Jane's Brownies

Cousin Jane, my husband's grandma's cousin, was a Home Economics teacher in the 1920's-1940's. This recipe was on a piece of paper, tucked in her class notebook along with a paper with some crochet directions jotted down and another paper on "how to make Italian hemstitching".
