Cousin Jane was my husband's grandmother's cousin. This recipe was found in her notebook on a piece of browned paper in her handwriting.
2 c. brown sugar
2/3 c. lard creamed together
2 eggs
1 scant tsp. baking soda in 1/2 c. boiling coffee
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. chopped dates
1 c. nut meats
2 1/2 c. pastry flour with 1 tsp. baking powder
Bake 400°
