I have not tried this recipe yet, I am hoping to this year, but I have had so many people "Searching" for this recipe that I decided to post it. I will put the recipe for now in my Heirloom section since I found it in my mother's recipe box. I'm copying the recipe pretty much "as is" so you'll have to "fill in the blanks" like baking temp and time until I try it myself. I'm going to try doing it with my mix master rather than by hand. Not sure if they'll turn out the same or not. If you make them and have any hints let me know!!!
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 t. salt
1 c. butter or margarine
1 1/2 t vanilla
3/4 c. grated unblanched almonds
Sift dry ingredients together, cut in butter until until like meal. Work in vanilla & nuts until ball forms. Roll out thin. Cut with small cookie cutter & bake, while hot spread with red currant jelly, or you choice. Place top on & roll in sugar while still warm.
