My Mom made this SO often, especially for potlucks or family gatherings. It's from her recipe box printed on a fairly old yellowed and stained card.
2 cups brown sugar
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 cup butter
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup chop pecans
2 heath bars
Mix br. sugar, flour & cut in butter as for a pie crust. Kee out 1 cup for topping. Add soda, salt, egg, milk & vanilla to rest of mixture. Blend all together. Bake in a greased & floured pan. Add nuts and heath bars chopped coarsely to the 1 cup mixture & sprinkle over cake. Bake 35 min. at 350°
