Aunt Carrie was my husband's grandma's sister-in-law. We met her a couple times. A very energetic lady who had a large house with apartments and had student roomers from the small college in town. The kids loved her!!! This recipe is written on a VERY fragile brown piece of lined paper. A note at the bottom from her niece, Aunt Evvy states, "This, I believe is Aunt Carrie's handwriting!" I'm not sure what "Don't use all pepper" means, but perhaps she herself did not use the amount of pepper called for in the recipe???
1 peck ripe tomatoes
2 heads celery
2 large onions
Cook until mushy with 2 quarts water-Strain.
1 1/2 cups flour (mixed with water)
1 1/2 cups butter
1/4 cup salt
