Becky's Stuffing

My own recipe for holiday stuffing. My Mother had already passed away by the time I got married and her recipe card for stuffing listed a couple ingredients with no measurements and I knew it was missing some things. So I also looked in my Grandmothers old 1912 Westbend Cookbook and found a stuffing recipe similar there also, on a page that had lots of spots on it, so I put it together with my Mom's recipe card ingredients and think I came up with something close to what I had as a child.

12 slices bread

Milk to cover bread

2 pounds ground beef

1 medium onion chopped

4 eggs

2 to 3 apples

2 to 3 handfuls raisins

Add these to taste, this is about what I use:

1 to 2 teaspoons nutmeg

2 to 4 tablespoons sugar

1 to 2  teaspoons sage

Dash of poultry seasoning

Salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, soak bread in milk to cover.  Brown the ground beef, add the onion and cook until softened.  Remove from heat and add to bread and milk and mix.  Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Cover and bake for 1 hour.
