Becky's Stuffing

Although my mother never really wrote down her recipe for me, I remember apples, raisins and ground beef. I found the basic parts of this recipe in a very old cookbook of my grandmothers on a very "splotched" page. I decided it must be the one and adapted it for my family.

12 slices bread

Milk to cover bread

2 pounds ground beef

1 medium onion chopped

4 eggs

2 to 3 apples

2 to 3 handfuls raisins

Add these to taste, this is about what I use:

1 to 2 teaspoons nutmeg

2 to 4 tablespoons sugar

1 to 2  teaspoons sage

Dash of poultry seasoning

Salt and pepper

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In large bowl, soak bread in milk to cover.  Brown the ground beef, add the onion and cook until softened.  Remove from heat and add to bread and milk and mix.  Add rest of ingredients and mix well. Cover and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours until heated through.
