Creamed Corn and Peas

2 tablespoons butter or margarine, DIVIDED

1/8 cup minced onion

1/4 cup celery

1 tablespoon flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

Dash pepper

1/4 teaspoon basil

1 teaspoon sugar

3/4 cup milk

1/2 (10 ounce) package frozen peas, thawed

1 cup corn, canned or frozen (thawed)

1/8 cup fine dry bread crumbs

1/8 cup grated cheese

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In medium skillet, melt ONE tablespoon butter. Add onion and celery and saute' until translucent. Stir in flour, seasonings and sugar. Gradually add milk and cook, stirring until thickened. In a separate bowl, mix veggies together. Add sauce, mixing lightly. Spray small casserole dish with vegetable spray and pour in mixture. Melt remaining butter. Add bread crumbs and cheese. Mix well and sprinkle over casserole. Bake for 30 minutes. Serves about 3 can be doubled.
