Ribbon Cookies-Grandma

2 cups butter or oleo

2 cups sugar

2 beaten eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

4 1/2 cups flour

2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup candied cherries

2 squares unsweetened chocolate

1/3 cup pecans

3 tablespoons poppy seeds

Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Combine flour, baking powder and salt. Mix well. Divide dough into 3 parts. Add cherries to 1 part, chocolate and pecans to another and poppy seeds to the third. Pat 1 part in large flat roll. Pan another part and place on first one. Place third dough on second. Cover with wax paper and refrigerate overnigh. Cut in 1/8 inch slices and bake at 375 degrees for 1 to 15 minutes.
